The origins of Ashtanga Yoga may be traced back to an old manuscript called Yoga Karunta, written by Vamana Rishi. T Krishnamacharya learned this scripture from his mentor Rama Mohan Brahmachari in the early 1900s. During his studies with T Krishnamacharya, K Pattabhi Jois was taught this information. K. Pattabhi Jois promoted Ashtanga yoga in the current era (1915-2009). Ashtanga yoga’s physically demanding and dynamic postures synchronise breath and body movement, resulting in the formation of internal heat that detoxifies the body. Ashtanga yoga is recommended for those who desire to strengthen their core muscles and tone their bodies. This leads in better blood circulation, a lighter and more physically powerful body, and a more serene mind. Vinyasa Yoga: Vinyasa means “to place in a particular way” in Sanskrit. Vinyasa yoga is a collection of poses performed in a certain order. Vinyasa is a yoga method that coordinates the flow of breath and body movements from one pose to the next.
The principles of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga are breath, bandhas (also known as energy locks), Drishti (a focus point of sight), and vinyasa (sequential movement). This style of yoga improves muscular strength while also reducing stress, tension, and anxiety.
Amar Srividya teaches the Primary and Intermediate Series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a physically rigorous practise that combines Asanas and Vinyasa Flow with Ujjayi Pranayama (Ocean Breathing). When Ujjayi breathing is paired with Vinyasa Flow, heat is produced in the body, which leads to purification via increased blood circulation. A student’s health, flexibility, and risk of injury can all be improved with consistent practise.
The “Mysore Style” class is a self-paced class in which students practise the Ashtanga Vinyasa Flow at their own rate while the professional supervisor makes required alignment and posture adjustments. Once a week, we will conduct instructor-led classes to help students grasp and learn the flow.
Yog Gurukul Ashtanga Yoga Classes in Koramangala adhere to traditional Ashtanga Yoga practises and provides safe practises that do not injure the body or mind.
